Hat tip to Daniel about Nokia's study regarding 3G cell phone usage. Unfortunately, it looks like the report is no longer available. From Daniel's perspective:
The key takeaway for me was that browsing is the number one (by far) mobile application that uses data, and interestingly, carrier decks only account for 50% of the traffic. That’s great! That means people are actually going outside the gardens and hitting other sites.
My question is: Are people using their mobile phones for online banking? In so many ways phones are (currently) more secure than PCs. Mobile banking never took off - but WAP was also a lousy experience. Will the combination of a better experience and better relative security make mobile banking more popular? We've had a cellphone software token for a long time. Perhaps if people start banking on their cell phones and phishers start phishing on cell phones, there will be a big market for two-factor authentication using cell phones :).
